Do college transcripts show that you have taken online classes?

Question:

Do college transcripts show that you have taken online classes?

Perfect School Search

Answer:

While one can't speak for every school, the vast majority will not show whether you took a class online or not on your transcripts, simply because it doesn't matter. It will likely show some combination of the class names and numbers, when you took them, your grades, GPA, and maybe standardized test scores and any honors you received.

As far as the transcript showing whether the class was online or in person, it won't show that, because the class is the same whether it's in person or online, aside from the medium through which it's been taken.

However, if you went to college entirely online and your degree is from a well known online school, like Southern New Hampshire University, then someone looking at your transcripts might speculate that you took online classes. This fact shouldn't make any difference in hiring or acceptance decisions. And if you're worried about it, just be sure to talk about challenges you faced as an online student and how you overcame them. They will be much more interested in that information than they will in how you took the class.
