Question:
Which major is better: international relations or public policy?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
Whether international relations or public policy is the better major depends on your perspective. If you want to work in international affairs, a major in international relations is better. If you want to work in public policy in the United States, a major in public policy is better.
An international relations major teaches students how countries around the world interact and relate, with attention to issues such as trade and international finance. International relations students study topics such as global development, international law, and international business. They learn about conflicts between countries and examine the motivations for war as well as the processes to restore peace. International relations majors work in jobs such as diplomats, foreign policy analysts, international bankers, and international attorneys.
A public policy major seeks to teach students about societal problems and how to address these using the resources of government and nonprofit organizations. Some of the topics usually covered in a public policy curriculum include American politics and government, political analysis, policymaking, public management, economics, social justice, and public policy law. Public policy majors work careers like policy advisers, nonprofit managers, economists, and political consultants.
