Question:
What should one study in high school to become a journalist?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
While in high school, you can do several things to prepare to become a journalist. For example, if your high school offers classes in journalism, these should be a priority in your coursework. In addition, you should take classes in English, writing, communication, and related topics. Also, if they are offered at your high school, classes in topics such as social media, photography, broadcasting, and film can help you learn about different forms of media used by journalists. If your high school has a newspaper, or even just a newsletter, you should work for the publication in any role available, such as reporter, photographer, or editor. In addition, you should check in your community for internships and possibly part-time job opportunities available at television stations, newspapers, radio stations, magazines, and other media outlets such as blogs. If you can work at one of these entities, this can help you gain hands on knowledge and experience in journalism. Finally, you might benefit by reading a few books written by professionals who offer insights into being a journalist.
