Question:

What job opportunities are there for someone with a private pilot license?

Answer:

In terms of lucrative careers in the aviation industry, there are very few job opportunities available for those with a private pilot's license. More advanced certifications (e.g. commercial pilot's license) are encouraged for those interested in pursuing a career as a pilot. However, there are several non-pilot positions available for private pilots, including:

  • Ground flight instructor
  • Aircraft salesmen
  • Civil Air Patrol (CAP)

While the minimum requirement for entry-level pilot jobs is a private pilot's license, there may be little to no flying involved without additional flight training. For example, those with a private pilot's license can become ground flight instructors but must have a commercial pilot's license to obtain a Flight Instructor Rating (FIR) certificate which allows instructors to teach more advanced training courses. Due to the minimum training required for private pilot positions, most jobs may offer a low salary.
