About Kansas State University

In 2011, U.S. News & World Report ranked Kansas State University number 73 among the nation's top public schools and number 143 among the best national universities. The 4-year, public school is located on 664 acres of land in Manhattan, KS, about 58 miles west of Topeka. It's accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Academics

Kansas State University operates several schools and colleges focusing on areas such as veterinary medicine, business administration, technology and aviation, human ecology, engineering, education, the arts and sciences, planning and design, agriculture and architecture. It also has a graduate school.

Undergraduate students can choose from more than 250 majors or fields of study. The university also offers master's degree, graduate certificate, doctoral and education doctoral programs.

In addition to on-campus programs, the school provides numerous online opportunities. In total, it offers nine bachelor's degree completion programs, 23 master's degree programs, one Doctor of Philosophy program, four minor programs of study and 23 certificate programs entirely online. Students also can study abroad in locations such as Finland, Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Ireland.

Admissions

Applications for undergraduate and graduation admission to Kansas State University should be submitted online. Undergraduate applications are accepted anywhere from 15 months to seven days before the start of classes for the semester in which enrollment is sought. Applications made less than seven days before the start of classes may incur a late fee. Admissions notifications are sent on a rolling basis.

In the fall of 2011, the school had a student population of about 19,000 undergraduate and 4,800 graduate students. Students came from all fifty states and 90 foreign countries. In fall 2010, the majority of all undergraduate students attended classes on a full-time basis.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Kansas State University charges different tuition for in-state and out-of-state students. During the 2012-2013 school year, in-state freshman students taking 14 credit hours paid $6,829 per year in tuition. At the same time, out-of-state students taking 14 credit hours paid $18,122 per year in tuition. Housing fees ranged from $3,000 to $7,450 per year.

According to the school, more than $200 million in grants, scholarships and loans are disbursed to students each year. The school participates in a federal work-study program, but also provides part-time on-campus jobs to students who do not meet federal program requirements. Merit-based scholarships are available.
