Other times, cinematographers sit on cranes or behind a stationary camera. In this digital age, it should be no surprise that the employment of cinematographers and similar careers is growing. From 2018 to 2028, employment of film and video editors is expected to grow by 14%; camera operators, 8%; and media and communication equipment workers, 3%. The median wage for all these jobs is $59,810 annually.
Despite this growth, the hiring process for these jobs will be competitive. Knowing how to use video editing software will give job candidates a leg up, as will having experience working for a TV station or on a film set. One should also seriously consider getting a bachelor's degree in film, communications, or a similar field, as most positions require a formal education.
