There is no limit to the number of attempts one has when taking any Salesforce certification exam. However, there is a limit to the number of attempts within a certain time frame. Salesforce certification exams get updated and released three times a year; specifically, one in each season except for fall. For each release, the number of attempts for a specific exam is three. For example, one would only be able to take the spring release of the Salesforce Developer exam three times but would still have three attempts left on the spring release of each of the other exams.

From the first attempt to the second attempt within a seasonal release, the waiting period is 24 hours. If a third attempt needs to be made, the waiting period increases to 14 days between the second and third attempts. If the third attempt is failed, one must wait for the next release cycle. The cost to retake a Salesforce exam is half of the original price, not including taxes.
