8 Best Online Accelerated Nursing Programs in Texas

Texas is home to several colleges and universities that offer online accelerated nursing programs. We've listed our favorites below in alphabetical order.

1. Abilene Christian University

Abilene Christian University is a private Christian university in western Texas. They offer an online registered nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree program.

The program is for licensed RNs who have already passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) and want to earn their bachelor's degree in nursing.

Students will need to take 28 credit hours for this program and can finish in as few as eight months.

This program covers topics such as:

• community and public health
• conducting health assessments for diverse clients
• health policy and informatics
• leadership and management
• professional practice tenants
• safe administration of medication

2. Schreiner University

Schreiner University is a private Presbyterian university in the southern Texas city of Kerrville. The school offers an online RN to BSN program.

This program is 100% online and takes one year to complete. Students are required to take 21 credits of nursing courses and 12 credits of electives.

Courses last seven weeks each, and there are five start dates throughout the year. No chemistry or statistics courses are required.

To apply, students must have an associate degree in nursing from an accredited institution and hold a current, unencumbered RN license.

3. Texas A&M University

Texas A&M University is a public research university in College Station, Texas. They offer an RN to BSN program.

This entirely online program requires 30 credits and can be completed in three or four semesters. All coursework is asynchronous, meaning you complete the program on your time and there are no set log in times.

Students must have an unencumbered RN license by the end of the program's first term. They must also have earned approximately 59 credits of prerequisite courses at an accredited college or university.

4. Texas Woman's University

Texas Woman's University is a public university in the city of Denton, a suburb in the north Dallas–Fort Worth metro area. Despite the name, the university has been co–ed for almost 30 years.

TWU offers two online nursing programs that can be completed quickly: an RN–BSN program and a Family Nurse Practitioner Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree.

The RN–BSN program is 100% online. Students will need 32 credit hours to complete the program, and each term is seven weeks long.

The Family Nurse Practitioner MSN program requires 45 credit hours. Full–time students can finish in two years, while part–time students can take two and a half to three years.

While classes are online, the program does require three direct patient care experiences. TWU provides placement support services for nursing students.

5. University of Mary Hardin–Baylor

The University of Mary Hardin–Baylor is a private Christian university in Belton, a central Texas city. They offer an online RN to BSN program.

This is a flexible, competency–based education (CBE) program. Students learn at their own pace and choose when to take their assessments.

25 credit hours are required for this program. Due to the nature of CBE programs, students can take as much or as little time as they need to finish their degree.

6. University of St. Thomas

The University of St. Thomas is a private Roman Catholic university in Houston. The university offers MSN programs for students who already have their RN license.

The RN–to–MSN program allows students with an associate degree in nursing to earn their master's, while the traditional MSN program is for students with bachelor's degrees in nursing.

Both programs are flexible, and the MSN program can be finished in as little as two years.

RN–to–MSN students can choose from the following concentrations:

Students in the traditional MSN program can choose from the above concentrations as well as a concentration in Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.

7. University of Texas at Arlington

The University of Texas at Arlington is a public research university in the middle of the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Their College of Nursing and Health Innovation offers several accelerated online nursing programs.

Some programs require fieldwork to be completed in Texas. Not all programs are available in all states.

Online accelerated undergraduate programs at UT Arlington include:

• __Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): A 15–month program for students who do not currently have a nursing degree or a registered nurse (RN) license.
• RN to BSN: A nine–month program for students who have an RN license but would like to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing.
• Professional Nursing Pathways: A program that allows students to earn their associate in nursing (ADN) simultaneously with their BSN. Can be completed in as little as nine months.

The University of Texas at Arlington has an NCLEX pass rate of over 90% and an overall pass rate of 94%. The university also offers a few accelerated online nursing certificates.

8. University of Texas at Tyler

The University of Texas at Tyler is a member of the University of Texas public university system and is located in eastern Texas. They offer an online RN to BSN track for nursing students,

The RN to BSN track takes about one year for full–time students, but a part–time option is available as well. Each course lasts seven weeks, allowing you to complete two courses per term.

30 credits are needed for this program, provided you have already obtained the prerequisite courses. The school offers a flat rate tuition of $9,895 for the program.
