Answer:
In 2018, there were 1,980,644 bachelors degrees conferred. Of those, 25,256 were in Mathematics and Statistics, or 1.275%. Jobs that would greatly benefit from someone with an mathematics and statistics degree are in much higher demand than some others. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, careers in the mathematics and statistics fields are expected to grow by about 27% from 2019 to 2029, which is far higher than average. These some 56,000 new jobs would also be, on average, higher paying as the median salary of math and statistics occupations are $90,000, compared to the national average of $39,000. This expected increase in demand may be in part due to government and business needs as more and more systems become reliant on networks and data driven information. Some of these careers may include actuaries, research analysts, mathematicians, and statisticians.
