Testing is offered year-round and can be taken either at a test center or online. The exam consists of 150 scored questions that are mostly multiple-choice. There are also 25 pretest questions. For those interested in taking the test, the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) website offers practice exams and study tips. PHR certification is valid for three years and 60 recertification credits are needed to renew the certification. Recertification credits can be earned by demonstrating professional achievement and completing professional development activities.
