Is gender studies difficult?

Whether gender studies is difficult depends on your perspective. Gender studies is part of the social sciences, which focus on learning about human behavior to understand what makes people behave in specific ways, how we relate to each other, and how we develop our cultures and societies.

Gender studies students take classes on topics such as the history of gender, gender roles in society, theories of feminism and masculinities, race and gender, gender issues in criminal justice and the legal system, and sexuality and gender. Gender studies curriculums usually consider gender in the context of various institutions, including families, the workplace, religion, and politics. In addition, gender studies reviews the role of gender in developing each person's body image, self-esteem, knowledge, and power.

Typically, a major in gender studies does not require coursework in math and science beyond general education requirements. Compared to math and science, the coursework for gender studies is more abstract, based on theories and ideas that cannot be definitively proven. This requires students to develop critical thinking skills and be more objective as they complete the coursework. If this sounds challenging, then yes, earning a degree in gender studies could be difficult. It depends on your learning style and whether you can tolerate some ambiguity in your studies.
