To become an avionics technician, you can take several routes. One common pathway is to complete an aviation maintenance program at a Federal Aviation Administration school. Some earn an associate's degree in avionics. Others may become certified through the military. To be an avionics technician certified by the FAA, you will need to remain certified as a mechanic with air frame and power plant ratings or work under a mechanic with these ratings.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, avionics technicians earned a median salary of $64,310 in 2019. This field is expected to grow at a rate of 3% from 2018 to 2028.
