How can ethics and etiquete affect your healthcare career?
Question:
How can ethics and etiquete affect your healthcare career?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
Etiquette and ethics are vital parts of "patient-centered care." Patients put faith in healthcare professionals to be honest and open about the information that they need to make healthcare decisions, while at the same time respecting their privacy and the confidentiality of their medical information. Many patients are scared, confused and at a traumatic point in their lives when they contact a healthcare professional. It is important, therefore, that the health care workers they come into contact with are sensitive to their emotional state and to any cultural or social needs they might have. This is particularly important during the COVID outbreak, when patients and loved ones are often isolated from one another. One way to establish rapport with patients is the CLEAR model, which stands for Connect, Listen, Explain, Ask, Reconnect.
Health care professionals can do their job more effectively if they can maintain that open connection to patients in a tactful way. Doctors need patients to be forthcoming with medical information and patients need to trust the doctor or they might not comply with medical advice. Health care professionals are often required to undergo ethics or sensitivity training and may face disciplinary action or loss of their license for violating ethics regulations.
