Answer:

As of 2021, the University of Oregon (UO), based in the city of Eugene, does not have a veterinary studies program to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM). However, UO students can complete their bachelor's degree and/or prerequisite courses there before applying to a DVM program.

As of 2021, the only Oregon university with a DVM program is Oregon State University (OSU), based in Corvallis. There are a number of prerequisites required in order to apply for OSU's Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine, including:

  • Biology - a full 200-level sequence
  • Physics - a full 200-level sequence
  • General Chemistry - a full 200-level sequence
  • Organic Chemistry - a minimum of one semester or two quarters
  • At least one course in each: genetics; animal or human physiology; upper-division biological science with lab; upper-division biochemistry with lab; college-level algebra or higher; and statistics.

For those who aren't sure about becoming a DVM, but would still like to work with animals, the following institutions offer shorter-term training as follows:

  • Blue Mountain Community College, Pendleton: Veterinary Assistant 1-year certificate.
  • Central Oregon Community College, Bend: Veterinary Technician 2-year Associate of Applied Science degree.
  • Portland Community College, Portland: Veterinary Technology 2-year Associate of Applied Science degree.
  • Carrington College, Portland: Veterinary Assisting 9-month certificate.
