Answer:
Completing a Juris Doctor (JD) degree is possible after obtaining an MBA. However, in order to do that, an individual must (1) be accepted into a JD program and (2) complete the program requirements for the degree. The details provided below, on the program offered by Northwestern University's Pritzker School of Law, can help give an idea of the requirements for both milestones.
Northwestern University's JD program requires the following application materials:
- Application Form
- Personal Statement
- Resume (indicating professional, education, and leadership experiences)
- Standardized Test Score (LSAT, GRE or both)
- The Law School Credential Assembly Service (CAS) report containing the following: post-secondary transcript, LSAT score, and at least one recommendation letter/evaluation
- $75 application fee
Applicants also have to pass through an admission interview program which is a way for the Admissions Committee to gauge an individual's interpersonal and communication skills, maturity, motivation, sense of community, etc. The interview may be taken on-campus, off-campus, or through an online video.
Once accepted into the JD program, students need to complete 85 semester credit hours (including the advanced writing requirement) within 6 to 7 years and earn a cumulative GPA of at least 2.25 to complete the program.
Individuals interested in completing a Juris Doctor degree and an MBA can consider a dual JD & MBA program that will allow them to complete both degrees simultaneously. Northwestern University also offers a JD-MBA that can be completed in three years instead of the usual 5 if taken separately.
