Sacramento City College is the seventh oldest state-funded community college in California and enrolls approximately 18,300 students. Its main campus is located in Sacramento, but it also operates two other campuses. The college's Business Division consists of two departments, including the Computer Information Science Department. The department offers an Associate in Science - Web Developer, Certificate of Achievement - Webmaster Level 1 and a Certificate of Achievement - Webmaster Level 2.
In addition to completing general education classes, students in the 60-unit Associate in Science - Web Developer program learn to design code, script, program and manage websites. Programming languages taught include HTML, active server pages (ASP), hypertext-preprocessor (PHP) and CGI scripting. Classes also cover website development and access, middleware Web scripting and Web projects.
Consisting of a minimum of 31 credit hours, the Certificate of Achievement - Webmaster Level 1 program focuses on the computer languages and software applications used in building websites. It introduces students to the Internet, website development, data communications and Internet technologies. Topics of study include cascading style sheets (CSS), Web design with Dreamweaver, file-management, client-side Web scripting and Linux operating systems.
Students in the 26-credit hour Certificate of Achievement - Webmaster Level 2 program learn about computer security, network management, routers and servers. Classes cover Linux operating systems, middleware Web scripting, Web server administration, network administration, server-side Web scripting and network security fundamentals.
