Answer:

Medical Assistants can expect to complete a wide range of tasks-from administrative work to clinical procedures. Some of their primary duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Stocking and prepping examination rooms for patients.
  • Scheduling patient appointments.
  • Recording patient medical and personal history.
  • Taking patient vitals.
  • Aiding physicians during medical examinations.
  • Preparing samples such as blood, urinalysis, and wound cultures to be sent to medical laboratories for testing.

As a Medical Assistant, you can also expect to do a great deal of interpersonal interaction. You will be relaying patient information to various medical professionals. It may also be your responsibility to welcome patients, make them feel safe, and potentially explain medical protocols and proper treatment (as delivered by the doctor).

With all of this considered, a certain level of comfortability when working with others, is encouraged. However, there is a great demand for medical assistants as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics of projects that job demand will rise by 23% within the following decade. Medical Assistants are essential to the proper functioning of medical care-so maybe the value that you offer to the community, will help you stretch beyond your introvert nature. Again, you have to decide whether or not this field of work is right for you.
