The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reports an estimated 5% growth in the sector of airline pilots, co-pilots and field engineers. This number is only going to grow as more and more candidates choose the occupation. As a flight instructor, a candidate must have the minimum qualification of a high school diploma, some employers may require a Bachelor's degree. All flight instructors must have a Commercial Pilot Certification or Airline Transport Pilot Certification. The former requires a minimum of 250 hours of flight hours and the latter requires 1,500 flight hours for a candidate to qualify. They must also get an instructor certification from the Federal Aviation Administration; the prerequisites of which are-
- A candidate must be 18 years of age
- Must be licensed pilot
- Be proficient in English
- Be equipped to design the instruction curriculum.
- A rating for the type of aircraft they specialize in
Overall, the job outlook for a flight instructor is estimated to grow faster as compared to other professions. Annually an experienced flight instructor can make an average of $60,000 a year.
