How long do teaching certificates last?
Question:
How long do teaching certificates last?
Perfect School Search
Answer:
Teaching certificates often last 5 years before a renewal is required. To renew your certification you will have to contact your state's department of education to know what requirements you'll need to submit. These requirements vary depending on the state's laws. However, most states require teachers who want to get a renewal to pay a renewal fee. The amount of this fee can change depending on the state and if your certification is already expired or not. If your certificate is already expired, you will most likely have to pay a higher fee.
In addition to this fee, you will be required to earn a certain amount of Continuing Education (CE) credits. You'll have to get these credits from your state's accredited providers. Activities like workshops, training programs, undergraduate and graduate courses, conferences, online activities, etc., count toward your CE credits. Typically, you will need to get around 100 CE credits to apply for a teaching certificate renewal. After paying your fee, completing your CE credits, and submitting the required documentation, you will be able to renew your certification for 5 more years.
