Yes, the Hazelwood Act, a State of Texas benefit for veterans and their children, and in some cases spouses, provides 150 credit hours of tuition waiver at any Texas state-supported college. This can include trade school courses such as auto mechanic, HVAC technician, and aircraft maintenance, to name a few. The benefits specifically cover tuition and cannot be applied to books, living expenses or some other fees.

To qualify for the benefit the veterans must have be a Texas resident or entered the military in Texas and serves 181 days. The veteran must have an honorable discharge and have no other concurrent federal Veterans education benefits, maintain the institutional GPA requirements and are not be in default of payment of a student loan.

The children of the veteran may also qualify for any unused portion of the Hazelwood Act benefit until the age of 26. Spouse may be eligible in the case of the veteran's death or MIA status while serving in the military. Spouses and children must meet the Texas residency requirements and are limited to the 150 credit hour tuition or what remains of the qualifying veteran's requirement.
