Answer:

There are many ways to use a culinary arts degree. And all depend upon the focus you choose. Most chefs and culinary professionals start without any experience or education. They begin in a restaurant as a line cook or even a prep cook. As they become more knowledgeable and experienced they may move up the chain of command to sous chef or even a head chef. But all of this can be done without any formal education. In general, a formal culinary education is valuable when you want to pursue a very specific style of cooking or a more formal or sophisticated style. Most colleges and universities do provide culinary programs that can formalize ones training. The majority of people achieve a bachelors degree in culinary arts and thus complete their education. But there are many colleges that provide a masters degree culinary arts. Again, the purpose of pursuing this higher degree is to achieve a formal focus on a specific style of food.
