Step 1: Complete Education Requirements

Nevada does not have licensure for their teachers' aides. Instead, each district can decide on the qualifications that are needed to act as an aide. However, we'll take a look at some of the basic requirements. To become a teacher's aide, also called a teacher's assistant or paraprofessional, in Nevada, you'll need at least a high school diploma. This is the minimum requirement, though you may need more education depending on the school district. For instance, Nevada's Nye County School District requires paraprofessionals to follow the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) regulations for paraprofessionals. This states that teachers' aides must have a high school diploma and either an associate's degree or 48 credits of college-level classes completed. This can mean you are continuing your education toward a bachelor's degree but want the classroom experience that teachers' aides provide.

Step 2: Complete Testing Requirements (Optional)

ETS offers an exam called the ParaPro Assessment. This isn't always necessary, but some school districts may require it or ask for it in lieu of more education beyond a high school diploma. This exam is specifically created for paraprofessionals. It tests you on reading, writing, and math basics - the things needed for the classroom. Each state has its own scoring requirements for this exam, and Nevada asks that you score 460 or higher. This test is 90 questions long, and a third of it will test you on classroom skills specifically. After you have taken the exam, it takes about two weeks for the scores to come back.
