Program Prerequisites:

Aspiring students of the Preliminary Education Specialist with a Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Emphasis program might already be licensed educators and should have a multiple subject credential or pass a California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST). In order to be admitted into a Brandman University credential program students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA in either a baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate program.

Program Description:

Once enrolled in Brandman University's Preliminary Education Specialist with a Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Severe Emphasis credential program, students may have the opportunity to enhance their instructional and evaluation skills and develop an understanding of strategies employed to teach students with learning or intellectual limitations and/or emotional disabilities. The curriculum utilizes classroom instruction, seminars, and internships to help students realize various concepts and principles. Topics addressed in program coursework include curriculum planning processes, communication techniques, behavioral modification theories and methods, and literacy and language development. Students might also study classroom management, learning theories, special education regulations, and collaborative methods. Supervised field experiences wherein students teach in an actual classroom are also included in the program.
