Program Prerequisites:

Prospective students should currently be employed as a teacher, have two years' experience, and have completed the Preliminary Education Specialist credential program in order to enroll in the Education Specialist Credential with a Mild/Moderate Emphasis program. In order to be admitted into a Brandman University's credential program students must have a minimum 2.75 GPA in either a baccalaureate or post-baccalaureate program.

Program Description:

Brandman University's Education Specialist Credential with a Mild/Moderate Emphasis program is designed to provide professional educators with the opportunity to study advanced methods and strategies for teaching students with mild-to-moderate learning, development, and behavior disabilities. The program begins with students outlining their professional and academic goals. This is followed by coursework addressing curriculum development, assessment strategies, transitional stages for persons with disabilities, and behavioral intervention methods. In the program's final course, students conduct a self-assessment of their progress as compared to the induction plan created in the first course and create a professional portfolio drawing from their academic and work experiences.
