About York Technical College
Located in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the 118-acre campus of York Technical College is just twenty miles from Charleston and about seventy-five miles from Columbia. The college was founded in 1964 and known as York County Technical Educational Center. Starting with just seven programs of study, the college now offers 89 different programs. York Technical College is also part of a consortium of South Carolina colleges that will receive a federal grant to develop programs in advanced manufacturing.
Academics
York Technical College offers programs through four academic departments, covering the areas of: business, computer, arts and sciences; health and human services; industrial and engineering technologies; and corporate and continuing education. The school also offers a Center for Teaching & Learning and features facilities for its professional truck driver training program and construction trade programs.
Students planning on eventually attending a 4-year school are able to plan appropriate coursework as they complete their associate's degree by enrolling in the University Transfer Program. Online and hybrid courses are available.
Admissions
York Technical College accepts applications for admissions year-round. Early application for any program is encouraged. The COMPASS placement test is required, although there are situations for waivers for most incoming students. There is a $20 registration fee.
The Health and Human Services Division has many programs that are limited enrollment. There are specific admission policies and pre-requisite courses for these programs. Details can be found on the college website.
Tuition & Financial Aid
Tuition is based on per credit hour charges. For 2012, in-county tuition is $149.00 per credit hour, out-of-county tuition is $163.50 per credit hour and out-of-state tuition is $344.00 per credit hour. There are additional fees for courses taken in specific programs. Books and other fees are not included in tuition rates.
The Lottery Tuition Assistance program is available to any qualified South Carolina resident. In addition to federal student loans and grants, the York Technical College Foundation offers several scholarships to help pay for school.
