About Walla Walla Community College

Located in Walla Walla, Washington, Walla Walla Community College was founded in 1967. The campus sits on 100 acres and is a key contributor culturally to Southeastern Washington. Walla Walla also has facilities in Clarkston and at the Washington State Penitentiary. The college is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Academics

Students can find associate's degrees and certificates in several fields of study, such as accounting technology, allied health and safety, computer science, English, welding technology, philosophy, and sociology. The school also offers workforce training, community education, and a transitional studies program. Students interested in distance education can find some online course options at Walla Walla.

A Student Development Center is available for students who need help with both academic and career questions or just want personal counseling or transfer help. Students can also participate in service learning projects, play intercollegiate sports, or join one of the many student clubs available on campus.

Admissions

Walla Walla is an open admissions community college. Applicants who are 18 years or older with a high school diploma or GED can apply for admission. Prospective students can either submit an application directly to the school's admissions office or use the online application system. New students who have never attended college can expect to take Compass placement tests and attend an orientation. If students are under 18 years of age and didn't graduate from high school, they must fill out the Under-Age Admission Policy forms or be enrolled in an option program for high school students.

In 2011, 57% of students attended full-time, 45% were female, and 44% were age 24 or under. Also in that period, 66% of students were white, 15% were Hispanic or Latino, and 77% resided in Washington.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Washington residents who attend Walla Walla and are taking 15 credits per quarter can expect to pay $4,375 per year for tuition and fees in 2012-2013. Non-resident students are expected to pay $5,675 per year. There are also other fees for books, labs, and fitness classes.

If students are in need of financial aid, the school requires that they apply using the FAFSA. Financial awards that students may qualify for include Pell grants, federal grants, work study and federal loans. Students can find several scholarship options as well, including the John Deere Scholarship and Walla Walla Community College Foundation scholarships.
