About Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas
Texas State University (TSU) is a public university in San Marcos, a town of about 50,000 located near Austin. Founded in 1903 under the name Southwest Texas State Normal School, the school's initial enrollment was 303 students; the population is now over 34,000. TSU has a second campus in Round Rock, Texas. U.S. News & World Report ranked Texas State University #39 among regional universities in the West in 2012.
Academics
Texas State University offers 97 undergraduate degrees, 87 master's degrees and 12 doctoral degrees through nine colleges: the College of Applied Arts, the McCoy College of Business Administration, the College of Education, the College of Fine Arts and Communication, the College of Health Professions, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Science and Engineering, the University College and the Graduate College. The student-to-faculty ratio is 20 to 1. Students can visit the Witliff Collections, an archive made up of original manuscripts, photographs and other artifacts.
Admissions
Students interested in attending Texas State University must submit the ApplyTexas Application, an official high school transcript, SAT or ACT scores and an admission essay. The application deadline is May 1, except for students who wish to enter the College of Communication Design, which has a deadline of March 15. All students pay an application fee of $60. Students who graduate in the top 10% of their high school class are admitted automatically.
Tuition & Financial Aid

TSU offers lower-income students a program called the Bobcat Promise, which pays the tuition and fees of freshmen whose families have a gross income of $25,000 or less.
