Stephen F. Austin State University is a public university in Nacogdoches, an east Texas town of about 30,000 people, which refers to itself as 'The Oldest Town in Texas.' The school was founded in 1923 as a teacher's college and currently serves about 12,900 students, with about 11,400 undergraduates. In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked Stephen F. Austin University the #76 regional university in the West.

Academics

Stephen F. Austin (SFA) comprises six colleges: the Nelson Rusche College of Business, the James I. Perkins College of Education, the College of Fine Arts, the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, the College of Liberal and Applied Arts, and the College of Sciences and Mathematics. Students can choose from over 80 majors and fields of study. Students who wish to experience a more rigorous academic curriculum can enroll in the School of Honors. The university employs around 500 faculty members, approximately 80% of whom have earned a terminal degree in their discipline. The average class size is 27 students.

Admissions

Prospective freshmen can apply to Stephen F. Austin State University by submitting a $35 application fee, an official high school transcript and an ACT or SAT score. Students who graduate in the top ten percent of their high school class don't need to meet a minimum standardized test score, but higher scores are needed for prospective students who ranked lower in their graduating class. Students can receive college credit for Advanced Placement (AP) and College Level Examination Program (CLEP) classes depending on their academic performance. The application deadline is rolling, but SAT scores must be submitted by August 31.

Tuition & Financial Aid

SFA offers hundreds of merit and need-based scholarships to students, sponsored by organizations like the alumni association, athletic department and ROTC.
