About Spalding University

Spalding University is a private liberal arts school located in Louisville, Kentucky. The university traces its roots to an academy founded by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth in 1814. Today, it offers an adult learning program that's the first of its kind in Kentucky. The university also features several master's degrees that are unique to the state, including programs in business communication and applied behavior analysis.

Academics

Spalding University offers students 14 undergraduate and 11 graduate degree programs in areas ranging from paramedical medicine and nursing to social science, business and psychology. Many of these fields of study are available in the Adult Accelerated Program (AAP), which is open to students over the age of 22. Other school features include a library with a media center, art gallery and rare books room. It also houses the university's math and writing labs.

Students pursuing one of the university's traditional undergraduate degrees can begin their studies in one of three academic terms. AAP and graduate students can earn their degrees during evening and weekend sessions.

Admissions

Students seeking admission to Spalding University as undergraduates must submit a completed application along with official high school transcripts or GED scores. ACT or SAT score reports are also required. Students who would like receive course credit for their qualifying IB (International Baccalaureate) or AP (Advanced Placement) exam scores should submit them along with their admissions application. Students can also earn up to 30 credit hours through DSST (DANTES Subject Standardized Test) or CLEP (College Level Examination Program) exams, which are applied to students' records as transfer credit.

Tuition & Financial Aid

Traditional daytime undergraduate courses cost $685 per credit hour during the 2012-2013 academic year. Students enrolled in undergraduate allied health courses were charged a slightly higher tuition of $745, while accelerated adult courses offered on the evenings and weekends cost $390 per credit hour.

Spalding University awards financial aid totaling over $4 million per year. Its endowed scholarship fund is available to all students. Those wishing to receive this award during the 2012-2013 school year must fill out an application by March 9th. In-state residents can also apply for state-funded aid in the form of the Kentucky Tuition Grant and the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship. Students not wishing to pay their balance in full can set up a payment plan with the student accounts office.
