About Seminole State College

Seminole State College is a public, 2-year institution located in the rural town of Seminole, Oklahoma. The campus is situated in the east-central part of the state, about 57 miles from Oklahoma City. The college was founded in 1931 as Seminole Junior College and changed its name in 1996.

The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited Seminole since 1975. The school's nursing program has additional accreditation from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

Academics

Seminole State College offers certificate and associate's degree program. The degree programs are divided into two categories: transfer-oriented and technical occupational. There are approximately 17 programs that can be transferred to a 4-year college and several that are more geared toward students who want to start working after earning their 2-year degree.

According to the number of program completions for 2010-11, all certificates were awarded in the area of child development. The most popular associate's degree programs were business/commerce, biological sciences and general studies.

Seminole has close to 2,282 students and approximately 107 faculty members (60 part-time and 47 full-time). The student-to-faculty ratio was about 19 to 1.

Admissions

Applications for admission are accepted on a rolling basis and may be submitted online or in person. Potential students should apply several months in advance of the semester they are planning to enroll. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must submit their high school transcripts with graduation date, transcripts from any other colleges, immunization records and the $15 application fee. Students who plan to transfer to a 4-year college are also encouraged to submit ACT scores, although this is not required for admission to Seminole.

During fall 2011, 53% of the students attended part-time and 47% attended full-time. In that population, 67% were female and 33% were male. The racial/ethnic breakdown was 66% White, 23% American Indian or Alaska Native, 6% Black/African American, 3% Hispanic/Latino, 1% Asian and 1% Non-Resident Alien.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The cost of tuition and fees for 2011-12 was $3,231 for Oklahoma residents and $7,625 for out-of-state students. Additional expenses included $2,000 for books and supplies, $6,350 for on-campus housing and meals, and $5,800 for other needs.

For 2010-11, 93% of the students attending Seminole State College received financial aid. In order to be considered for aid, students must fill out a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year. Although most assistance is based on financial need, limited scholarship funds are also available. Seminole's scholarship deadline is January 15.
