About Santa Fe College

Founded in 1965, Santa Fe College is one of 28 statewide public colleges in Florida. As of 2012, the school serves as the academic home to nearly 15,500 undergraduate students and is part of the Florida College System. Santa Fe College's primary 175-acre campus is located in Gainesville, with 7 additional satellite locations throughout Florida. In addition to credit and non-credit educational programs, there are a number of extracurricular activities available through the schools' campus clubs and student organizations. The Aspen Institute named Santa Fe College among the nation's top 10 community colleges in 2012.

Academics

Santa Fe College offers many associate's degree options, as well as 8 areas of study at the bachelor's degree level. Courses are available through departments such as English, math and natural sciences. There are also vocational certificates in such areas as business management, dental assisting and surgical technology. They can typically be completed between 6 months and 2 years.

Students interested in Web-based education can find a number of fully online degree programs available at Santa Fe. An Associate of Science in Business is available online, as well as Associate of Arts programs ranging from anthropology and classical studies to economics and women's studies. Special learning options are also available that include weekend/evening programs, teacher certification and study abroad programs.

Admissions

First-time students are required to submit high school transcripts and residency documentation when applying to Santa Fe College. ACT or SAT scores that are less than 2 years old are also required, in addition to ACCUPLACER college-level math test scores. The application process may be completed online.

In the fall of 2011, 70% of all undergraduate students who began their studies were 24 years old or younger, 58% attended classes on a part-time basis and 56% were female.
