About Salina Area Technical College
Salina Area Technical College, commonly called Salina Tech, was established as Salina Area Vocational Technical School in 1965. The school's name was changed to Salina Area Technical College (SATC) in 2008. The school is located in Salina, Kansas, which is the seventh largest city in the state.
Academics
For potential students seeking educational options in order to immediately enter a career field, the school offers technical certificates in 15 areas of study. These areas of study include automotive technology, business administration technology and environmental technology.
In 2009, this public school expanded its academic program offerings to include 14 Associate of Applied Science degree programs. Examples of programs include dental assisting and welding technology. SATC also offers continuing education courses aimed at improving workforce skills. Students have the option to participate in internships throughout their studies upon an instructor's approval, usually lasting three weeks or less.
Admissions
Salina Tech has an open admission policy. The general application process for prospective students requires the submission of an application, available online at the school's website, and a $25 non-refundable enrollment fee. Applicants may also download the form and mail in the application with the additional requirements. As part of the application packet, prospective students also need to submit a high school transcript or GED scores. All full-time students are required to complete the COMPASS Reading and Math tests.

These estimated costs include tuition, fees, books, tools and uniforms. For example, the fairly popular medical assistant program cost $6,236, while the auto collision repair program cost $7,335 in 2012-2013.
During the 2010-2011 academic year, 41% of all undergraduates received financial aid in the form of grants or scholarships. Financial aid options include federal loans, state or federal grants and scholarships. Among other scholarship opportunities, there are four institutional scholarships available through the Salina Tech Foundation. SATC also offers a plan payment option on a case-by-case basis, allowing qualifying students to make payment installments on tuition and fees.
