About Rogers State University

Located in northeast Oklahoma, Rogers State University (RSU) offers associate's and bachelor's degrees. As the only four-year public university near Tulsa, RSU's enrollment numbers have been increasing faster than all other schools in the state, growing over 94% since the year 2000. Numerous efforts by the school have helped it grow, including its extensive Green Campus initiative which has allowed the school to save on utility costs by utilizing geothermal energy for many of its buildings. Another recent addition to RSU is the Centennial Center, a 50,000 square-foot multi-purpose facility finished in 2009.

Academics

In addition to the main campus in Claremore, the university also runs physical campuses in nearby Bartlesville and Pryor. These locations allow students to enroll in courses and meet with various school representatives, but degree completion may require attendance at the Claremore campus. RSU has offered online courses since 1992 as one of Oklahoma's pioneers in the field of online education. A selection of full degrees can be earned entirely online, including an associate's degree in computer science and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Management.

Three schools administer the various programs of Rogers State University, which include 15 bachelor's programs and roughly 15 associate's degree programs. The School of Business and Technology offers a sports management program along with multiple programs centered on business and technology. The School of Liberal Arts encompasses a variety of study areas, including fine arts, theater, criminal justice and political science. The School of Mathematics, Science and Health Sciences houses one of Oklahoma's best nursing programs; graduates of the program have a licensing exam passage rate well above the state average.

Admissions

Freshman admission to RSU begins with an online or paper application. After filling out the form, students must arrange to have an ACT score report and their high school of GED transcript sent to the RSU admissions office. The ACT scores are not used as a condition for admission but are used for assigning students to the appropriate level of courses. The school accepts applications throughout the year, so students can apply at any time.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The tuition for residents taking regular or online courses was $108.75 per credit during the 2012-2013 academic year, but the online courses carry a higher additional fee of $135.45, compared to the $58.45 fee for traditional courses. Out-of-state residents are billed the same additional fees, but the base tuition for regular online courses was $326.25 for 2012-2013. Some courses may also require additional fees. Students should discuss net costs with a school representative to get an idea of what the total costs will be, depending on the type of education he or she wishes to pursue.

To help pay the costs of school, RSU provides a number of aid opportunities. Students participating in the Oklahoma 'OKPromise' program can have their awards supplemented by the school's Hillcat Promise. The Hillcat Promise ensures a student's mandatory fees and tuition costs are covered and provides up to $1,000 for books and supplies. Scholarships from RSU are also available for students. A separate scholarship application must be filled out for these scholarships, in addition to the FAFSA and admissions applications. The priority consideration deadline for RSU scholarships is March 1 for the next academic year. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to remain eligible for scholarship renewal.
