About Pickens Technical College

Located in Aurora, Colorado, Pickens Technical College is a public vocational school offering high school students and adults career and technical training. Pickens is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and it's also jointly approved by the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education and the Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System.

Academics

Pickens Technical College offers more than 40 certificates in fields such as media and communication, human services, construction, landscaping and environment, transportation, health and business technology. Day and evening programs are available.

This college also partners with schools in the Colorado Community College System to offer 2-year degrees, including an Associate of Applied Science in Applied Technology, an Associate of Applied Science in Management and an Associate of General Studies degree. Students complete some of the coursework at Pickens Tech then transfer to a participating community college, which awards them their degree after all coursework has been completed.

In addition, Pickens Technical College offers students co-curricular activities with career and technical student organizations in a wide variety of career fields. The campus Media Center provides instructional material and resources for students and staff, including books, CDs and magazines. The campus also features a Kids Tech Child Care Lab Center, which serves as both a training lab for students enrolled in the early childhood education program as well as a licensed early childhood facility for children ages 1-5. Similarly, a salon offers hair, skin and nail services while providing a training environment for students in the cosmetology department.

Admissions

Pickens Technical College has an open admissions policy. To register for classes, students must complete an online or printable application. Students can schedule an appointment with an advisor to receive assistance with entering a program. Students must bring proof of residence and payment for tuition and fees to register for classes.

Tuition & Financial Aid

In 2011-2012, the annual cost of tuition and fees was $2,376 for in-state residents and $4,656 for non-residents, with books and supplies costing an additional $1,200. Students can pursue financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants and work-study opportunities. New and continuing students can also apply for variety of public, private and institutional scholarships. Pickens Technical College does not participate in the federal student loan program.
