About Louisiana College
Louisiana College is a co-educational liberal arts and sciences school affiliated with the Southern Baptist church. The 4-year private school was established in 1906 in Pineville, Louisiana. In its 106-year history, the school has graduated more than 12,000 students. The school operates on an 81-acre campus and mainly draws students from Louisiana. The college boasts of a student-to-faculty ratio of 13 to 1 and states that two thirds of its faculty holds the highest degree in their field.
Academics
Louisiana College operates two schools, the School of Education and School of Nursing, and ten divisions. Through these schools and divisions, it offers over 70 majors and pre-professional degree programs and one graduate program. Available areas of study include management and marketing, journalism, music, theater arts, history, sociology, English, chemistry and medical technology.
Based on its Christian heritage, Louisiana College operates a Division of Christian Studies. This division provides degree programs in biblical studies, Christian education, Christian Philosophy and Christian Studies.
Through the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Louisiana College also offers 12 pre-professional programs. Available fields of study include dental hygiene, engineering, medicine, occupational therapy, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, respiratory therapy and veterinary medicine.
The on-campus library houses more than 135,000 volumes of text and almost 200,000 government documents. It also holds 75,000 microfilm items and provides access to 13,200 e-journals and 41,000 e-books.
Admissions
Louisiana College employs a rolling admissions process, but encourages students to apply as early as possible. First-year students are required to submit an application, $25 application fee, official high school transcripts and ACT or SAT scores. Applications can be submitted online or completed by hand and delivered in person or by mail.
In 2011, the school received 820 applications, of which it accepted 74%. Of those admitted, 53% enrolled. At that same time, 93% of the student body attended classes on a full-time basis.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Undergraduate tuition for the 2012-2013 school year was $405 per credit hour. During that same period of time, the school estimated that housing would cost between $1,040 and $1,545 per semester and board between $1,183 and $1,440 per semester. Additionally, the college encouraged adults 65 or older to participate in undergraduate opportunities by charging a special tuition fee of $21 per credit hour for the 2012-2013 year.
Louisiana College offers several options to help with tuition costs, including federal work-study programs, grants and scholarships. Scholarships may be awarded based on academic performance, ACT or SAT scores or a display of artistic skills. In 2011, 100% of first-year undergraduate students received some form of financial aid.
