About Lewis-Clark State College

Located in Lewiston, Idaho, Lewis-Clark State College (LCSC) is a public, 4-year state college at which students can earn an associate's or bachelor's degree. The school operates additional campuses in Coeur d'Alene, Grangeville, Kooskia and Orofino.

LCSC strives to support Idaho's needs and economy through its academic and professional programs. However, more than just Idahoans benefit from the school's programs. Students from more than 30 states and 20 countries are among the college's more than 4,000 students. LCSC is one of the top five public schools in the Western region, according to U.S. News & World Report's 2013 rankings.

Academics

Academic programs at LCSC are divided among six divisions: humanities, natural sciences and mathematics, nursing and health sciences, business, education and social science. Students seeking a bachelor's degree can choose from 23 majors. The school also has six associate degree programs. Roughly half of the bachelor's degrees awarded in 2011 were in business, the health professions and education. Just over half of bachelor's degree-seeking freshman returned for their second year of studies.

In 2011, the faculty at LCSC was comprised of 157 full-time professors and 95 part-time professors. The student to faculty ratio is 16 to 1. Only professors, not graduate students, teach classes. Online courses and some online degree programs are available; approximately 70% of students participate in online learning.

LSCS athletes compete in 12 men's and women's sports teams as part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics' Frontier division. The baseball program boasts 14 current or former major leaguers who honed their skills on LCSC's fields. Numerous student clubs and organizations are on campus, including local radio station KLCZ.

Admissions

Regular admission requires a completed application, high school transcripts, transcripts from any colleges attended and ACT or SAT scores. To be considered for regular admission, an applicant must have achieved at least a 2.0 GPA in high school (and any colleges attended). A minimum ACT composite score of 17 or SAT combined critical reading and math score of 690 is required. In addition, students must have taken and passed all the Idaho core standard courses for college admission. Students not meeting these minimums can be admitted conditionally but will have to enroll in a specialized program of study until they meet the school's conditions for regular enrollment.

Students seeking entry for the Fall semester must apply by August 8 of the year in which they wish to begin. Students who'd like to enter in the Spring semester must apply by January 8 of the year in which they'd like to start. Students who wish to apply for some types of financial aid must submit those forms by March 1; students must, therefore, be admitted to the school prior to March 1 to be considered for priority financial aid awards. In 2011, 63% of applicants were admitted. Two-thirds of students are enrolled full-time.

Tuition and Financial Aid

The cost of attending LCSC depends on whether the student is a resident of Idaho. Estimated tuition and fees for Idaho residents was $5,348 in 2011-2012. Non-resident tuition and fees for that academic year were $14,880. The cost of books and supplies was about $1,520. On-campus room and board and other expenses were around $12,000; off-campus living was estimated to cost about the same. Freshmen are not required to live on-campus.

The school offers federal grants, need- and merit-based scholarships and tuition waivers, federal loans and three work-study programs. Almost all incoming freshman receive some type of financial aid. Only degree-seeking students are eligible for aid.
