About Georgia State University

Georgia State University (GSU) is a public research university located on 67 acres in downtown Atlanta. Students have many on-campus living and dining options, and can easily walk or take the Panther Express bus to some of Atlanta's attractions.

GSU was ranked #14 among up-and-coming universities in 2013 by U.S. News & World Report, and several of its programs are highly ranked. In 2013, GSU's undergraduate business programs in insurance, management information systems and real estate were all ranked in the top ten in the nation. Additionally, in 2012, U.S. News ranked GSU's Andrew Young School of Policy Studies #23 among the best public affairs schools in the nation.

Academics

GSU is made up of eight colleges and schools, including an honors college, law school, nursing school and college of business. Students at GSU can choose from over 250 degree programs, including bachelor's, master's, doctoral and specialist programs in over 100 subjects. For the 2012-2013 academic year, the most popular undergraduate programs were in psychology and accounting.

Learning opportunities for GSU undergraduates include participating in the Atlanta-based learning program where freshman explore the city while earning credits. Additionally, honors students have the chance to participate in undergraduate research projects.

Students can attend a combination of day and evening classes and opt for either part-time or full-time study. Online courses and program options are available.

Admissions

Students who plan to enter GSU in the fall, should apply for admission by the early-action deadline of November 1 or the regular deadline of March 1. Students seeking admission to professional programs, such as programs in education or nursing, must apply and be accepted to the university and then apply to the relevant school or college.

Graduating high school students must submit SAT or ACT scores as well as transcripts to GSU. Georgia State University accepts credit earned from the Advanced Placement program, the College Level Examination Program and the International Baccalaureate program.

Tuition & Financial Aid

For the 2013-2014 school year, tuition and fees were $8,368 for in-state undergraduates and $22,936 for out-of-state undergraduates, according to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES). On-campus room and board was estimated to cost $12,126.

Students should apply for federal financial aid by the priority deadline of April 1 to ensure timely financial aid awards. Students can pay tuition via the schools electronic PantherPay system.

The university has a variety of merit scholarships available for entering freshmen, undergraduates and graduate students. Several of the colleges and graduate departments offer assistantships for graduate students.
