About Cincinnati State Technical and Community College
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College is a public, two-year college with 4 main locations and 4 auxiliary sites. Campus sites include locations in Clifton, Middleton, Harrison, and Evendale. The college was established in 1966 by the Cincinnati Board of Education. Its mission is to provide student-focused, accessible programs and degrees. The cooperative education program is one of the largest in the United States for 2-year colleges.
Academics
As of 2012, nursing and health programs were the most popular with 26% of the student body pursuing these degrees. Engineering technologies enrolled 21% and arts and humanities enrolled 20%. Culinary arts, business programs, and early childhood education followed in enrollment rates. The 4 divisions within the college offer more than 75 associate degrees and 40 certificate programs. The school also supports distance education and dual enrollment.
The college and programs hold accreditation from several organizations, including the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools; the American Dietetic Association, Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education; the American Occupational Therapy Association, Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education; and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Within the college exists the Midwest Culinary Institute, specializing in pastry arts, dietetics, and hospital technologies. The Johnnie Mae Berry Library is housed on the main campus, and students can search for books and resources online from the school's website. On-site childcare for students and faculty is offered at the William Mallory Early Learning Center, which also serves as a training center for education students. The college also owns Cincinnati West Airport and provides a range of aviation programs, including flight instruction.
Admissions
The admissions process should begin 6 to 8 weeks before the desired start date. There is a $15 application fee. The process and requirements differ based on the goals and experience of the student. COMPASS placement testing is required for students who want to enroll in degree or certificate programs. This testing is offered at multiple campus locations and is free of charge. Admission forms can be accessed online from the school's website.
The college maintains articulation agreements with many other colleges and universities to allow students to further their education easily. Approximately 64% of students attended part-time in fall 2011, 53% of students were female, 30% were African American or black and 1% was Hispanic or Latino.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for 2012 was $142.17 per credit hour for in-state students and $284.34 for out-of-state students. Lab fees ranged from $5 to $30 per hour. Other fees included a technology fee, a facility fee, and parking permits.
The college offers financial aid for eligible degree and certificate programs. Financial aid can include grants, loans, work-study, scholarships, and extended payment plans. Scholarship applications must include letters of recommendation. The college also offers a financial literacy class called Cash Course and a Financial Aid Literacy workshop.
