Information About CHI Institute
CHI Institute is located on two campuses in the area surrounding Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Broomall campus originated in Detroit as RETS Electronic School, before relocating to in 1958 and becoming CHI Institute in 1994. Broomall operates two remote branches: Kaplan College in Milwaukee, and Career Centers of Texas in Fort Worth. The Franklin Mills campus was established at its present location in 1981.
With time, the school has expanded its curricula to keep up with industrial and technological developments. In 1985, it was approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Education for granting Associate in Specialized Technology degrees. CHI Institute programs combine classroom learning with hands-on laboratory experience.
Sample Programs at CHI Institute
Dental Assisting
This program combines lab training, classroom instruction and externship experience to teach chair-side techniques for assisting dentists. Students learn how to take dental x-rays and create impressions using dental cements, resins and other restorative materials. Coursework covers anatomy and physiology as it relates to dentistry, in addition to oral hygiene and preventive care techniques. Graduates are prepared for radiology certification exams at state and national levels.
Medical Office Assistant
Those enrolled in this diploma program develop clinical skills through practical experience in simulated dental and medical office environments. Curriculum includes insurance billing and coding, accounting, scheduling appointments and maintaining patient records. Students also learn clinical skills such as performing CPR, taking vital signs, bandaging and radiography. Professional development courses address law and ethics, stress management and teamwork.
Pharmacy Technician
This diploma program teaches students about prescription order processing. Students are required to learn both trade and generic names of medication, and study how various drugs affect the body. Hands-on lab training develops competency in hospital pharmacy procedures, including the preparation of sterile intravenous solutions. Students also learn first-aid, CPR and computer software applications. A pharmacy externship is required, after which graduates may seek employment in hospital and retail pharmacies.
Criminal Justice
This program focuses on criminal law, corrections, juvenile justice, probation and parole. In addition to classroom instruction, students get hands-on experience with simulated crime-fighting scenarios and participate in a local externship. The program results in an Associate in Specialized Business, which qualifies graduates for entry-level employment in local, state, federal or private law enforcement organizations.
Computer Networking Technology
This associate degree program provides the skills necessary to work with large computer networks. Students learn to install and maintain computer networks, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, manage databases, and develop websites. Graduates are eligible for employment as network systems support technicians or network operations analysts with government agencies, software publishing companies and telecommunications organizations.
