About Central Maine Community College

Established in 1963, Central Maine Community College (CMCC) is a 2-year, public institution that awards certificates and associate degrees. Located in Auburn, Maine, on 135 acres near the banks of Lake Auburn, CMCC's enrollment has grown from 48 students in its first year to nearly 3,000 today. CMCC offers a variety of transfer and pre-baccalaureate programs, as well as vocational and professional training.

Academics

Central Maine Community College offers associate degree programs in the arts, sciences and applied sciences, as well as a number of certificate programs. CMCC provides over 29 programs in subjects like accounting, criminal justice, education and computer applications. Online and hybrid class options are also available. Popular majors in 2011 were business administration and management, liberal arts and sciences, computer installation and repair technology, registered nursing and automotive mechanics technology.

CMCC has transfer programs in place to help with the transition to a 4-year college or university. CMCC partners with additional learning centers and affiliate schools in the Franklin, Lincoln and Oxford counties throughout Maine. Through these off-site locations, students can take courses at their convenience prior to finishing a degree at the main campus or attending a 4-year college or university. Additionally, CMCC offers workforce training, professional development workshops and safety training programs through its Corporate and Community Services division.

Admissions

Central Maine Community College employs a rolling admissions policy, admitting students who have obtained a high school diploma or GED and meet the application requirements. All students must submit a completed application and fee, official high school transcripts or GED scores, documentation of specific program prerequisites (if applicable) and placement test scores in math, reading, writing and algebra. While it is not mandatory, CMCC encourages students to take the SAT and include letters of recommendation to assist with the decision-making process.

Students applying to the nursing program must submit all application materials and test scores no later than January 31 to be considered for the fall semester. Central Maine Community College's fall 2011 enrollment was 2,905 students. The school reported a higher enrollment of female students than male (54% versus 46%), with 49% of the entire student population enrolled full time.

Tuition & Financial Aid

The tuition cost for the 2012-2013 year for Maine residents at CMCC was $86 per credit hour. New England Regional Student Program participants who came from neighboring states paid $129 per credit hour, and the cost for non-residents was $172 per credit hour. Additional fees vary depending on the program and course load; students should check the school website for more information. CMCC has several on-campus housing options that range in price from $8,176-$8,916 for the full year (including fees, meals and a damage deposit).

CMCC offers a payment plan that allows students to make four monthly payments for a $35 fee. There are several forms of financial aid available to help with the cost of attendance, including grants, scholarships, federal loans, federal work study and private loans. In 2011, 96% of first-time students enrolled full time received some form of financial aid.
