About Broward College

Broward College was founded in 1960 as the Junior College of Broward County, a 2-year college located in the southeastern Florida city of Fort Lauderdale. In 1963, Broward College's first permanent campus opened in Davie, Florida, and today the college has three campuses and six centers located throughout Broward County. The newest campus, the Judson A. Samuels South Campus in Pembroke Pines, opened in 2009.

In 2008, what was then called Broward Community College changed its name to Broward College to reflect the addition of 4-year programs. Although Broward College offers bachelor's degrees, it mainly offers associate's degree programs, and thus is still operates in Florida's community college system. In 2011, Broward College was ranked in the top ten percent of U.S. community colleges by the Aspen Institute.

Academics

Broward College provides students with a range of day, evening, and online courses to choose from. The college also has an accelerated learning program, which allows high school students to take college-level courses for college credit and allows adults to earn college credits for military service and for life experiences, such as travel and work experience.

Broward offers Associate in Science, Associate in Arts and Associate in Applied Science degree programs in many subjects, such as information technology, hospitality, humanities, communication and health sciences. Though Broward College primarily offers associate's degrees, students also have the option of pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in education or nursing, or a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in information technology, supervision and management, or technology management.
