Admissions
The BYU admissions department encourages students who have a GPA greater than B+ and an ACT composite score in the mid-twenties to apply. Additional factors that are considered during the application process include ecclesiastical recommendations, school and church involvement, seminary and institute recommendations, student essays and prior academic performance. Students of any faith are welcome to apply. All students are expected to abide by the school's honor code, which outlines a commitment to honesty, modesty in personal appearance, chastity, clean language, respect and abstention from alcohol, coffee, tea, tobacco and illegal substances; Mormon students are expected to participate in church services regularly.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to take Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses while in high school. College credit may be granted for these classes. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are strongly advised to attend seminary to facilitate spiritual preparation for college. ACT or SAT scores and an essay are also required as part of the application process.
