Online Bachelor's in Education Degrees in Ohio

All of the Ohio online education programs in the list below offer a bachelor's degree that can be completed entirely or partially via online learning.

1. Franklin University

Franklin University is an Ohio–based private university that serves adult working individuals through online learning. Accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, the university intends to provide flexibility in education to adult students worldwide.

Franklin's Bachelor of Science (BS) in Primary Education (PreK–5) is designed to help Ohio students become elementary school educators.

By combining online coursework and practical application experience, new teachers can gain the skills to turn their students into lifelong learners.

The program is 120 credit hours at $398 per credit hour, and classes are available in six, eight, 12, and 16–week formats.

2. University of Toledo

The University of Toledo (UT) is the northernmost public research university campus of the University System of Ohio. It serves over 17,000 students a year through online and on–campus classes.

UT has a fast track early childhood education program available online for interested future preschool and daycare teachers.

While the bachelor's program doesn't prepare graduates for licensure and public education, it does allow them to work in private practices such as daycares, private tutoring, or as a substitute or assistant teacher.

To be part of the program, you must also be currently employed in a care and education center serving infants, toddlers, or preschoolers for at least 20 hours a week.

3. Western Governors University

Western Governors University (WGU) has partnered with the state of Ohio to provide more than 60 bachelor's and master's degrees to Ohio residents through its online school.

By completing WGU's elementary education Bachelor of Arts (BA) program, students are prepared for licensure in any of the 50 states (with consideration of each state's individual requirements) and have the ability to educate diverse learners.

Tuition charges are per six–month term, with each term costing $3,575. Students take 30 months on average to complete the program, which is vastly preferred to the four years that most bachelor's programs take.

4. University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati (UC) is a public research university and the oldest higher education institution in Cincinnati, Ohio. It's also the second–largest university by enrollment in the state.

The BS in Early Childhood Education from UC builds on associate education to allow educators to design and implement development–focused learning environments for children from birth to age five.

The program is considered the 2nd Best Online Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education by TheBestSchools.org, has full and part–time online course loads for flexibility and allows transfer credits.

The course is 60 to 120 credit hours and costs $571 per credit hour for part–time residents and $6,851 per semester for full–time students.

5. Ohio Dominican University

Ohio Dominican University (ODU) is a private Dominican liberal arts university that offers 40 undergraduate degree programs and nine graduate degrees. It's accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

ODU's Bachelor of Arts in educational studies is one of the few non–licensure programs that focuses on professional education opportunities outside of becoming a teacher.

Concentrations for the program include:

6. University of Dayton

The University of Dayton (UD) is a private Catholic research university in Dayton, Ohio. It offers over 80 academic programs to students worldwide through its campus and online courses.

At Dayton, students can participate in a part–time online bachelor's program in early childhood leadership and advocacy, designed to help early childhood professionals with associate degrees get a full bachelor's in their field of work.

Coursework combines theory with practical knowledge and experience to help educators advocate for the children in their care.

The program requires 121 credit hours, but students with associate degrees and the required core credits can complete it in less than four years.

7. Notre Dame College

Notre Dame College is a coeducational private Catholic college that was originally a women's college formed by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Because its degree programs are accessible online, the college has students from 35 states and 21 countries.

Notre Dame College's B.A. in early childhood education (Pre–K to 5th Grade) online program prepares students for the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) exams and gives them over 100 hours of field experience.
