Economy and Employment

Like much of New England, Woburn witnessed a transformation in the latter part of the 20th century from an industrial economy to one based on services and technology. A Marshalls distribution center is the city's largest employer, followed by Mergis Group and facilities service company NECC Corporation, New England Rehab Hospital and Parker Chromerics, which provides thermal interface materials (TIMs) for electronics. Additionally, many workers commute to jobs in other parts of the Boston metropolitan region, including Boston itself, where the economy is heavily dependent on education, tourism, finance and biotechnology.
