Jefferson County Public Schools' Vocational Programs

This Louisville adult school offers vocational programs, as well as adult basic education, ESL and GED preparation courses. In addition, this school provides transitional programs that focus on basic skills to prepare adults for specialized vocational training. Educational Enrichment Services Program

This program is offered collaboratively with Jefferson Community and Technical College. The courses provide a review of the basic math, reading and writing skills necessary to place into vocational courses at community colleges. A class in English as a second language is also available.

National Career Readiness Program

Sponsored by the Kentucky Workforce Investment Board, this certificate program is designed to show that graduates have the basic skills needed to gain employment. The program assesses students' skills in three areas: locating information, reading for information and applied math.

The Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky (AOKY) Program

The AOKY program enables adults to earn a GED while also taking other college classes to prepare for their future careers. One such example could be a student studying for the GED while also taking healthcare classes in order to enter the medical field. Students learn about the Accelerating Opportunity Kentucky Allied Health Program and available job opportunities.

Jefferson Community and Technical College's Vocational Programs

One of 16 colleges in the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) enrolls about 12,000 Louisville students every semester across its six campuses. JCTC offers certificate and degree programs, including an extensive range of adult student vocational options, such as those listed below.

Apprenticeship Studies

Three apprenticeship programs are available in the areas of cabinetry and millwork, carpentry and general millwork. Each apprenticeship option includes technical and general core classes, in addition to work experience.

Engineering and Electronics Technology Programs

Adult students can enroll in a certificate or associate's degree program in engineering and electronics technology. They can choose from concentrations, such as electronics; industrial, computer aided design or mechanical technician; robotics and automation technician; and computer maintenance. Students in these programs take core classes, such as electrical circuits, digital logic circuits and devices.

Health Information Technology Programs

Adult students can earn a 68-hour associate's degree in health information technology to prepare for careers in health information management. In addition to classroom instruction, students learn through lab experiences and time spent at healthcare facilities.

Radiography Program

Graduates of this 21-month associate's degree program may work as radiologic technologists in hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The curriculum includes college algebra, applied physics, medical terminology and a series of technical courses with a clinical component.

New Horizons Louisville

New Horizons Louisville has many different technical and business training courses that target adults and students who want to gain career-specific skills. They aim to offer highly flexible learning schedules, with a range of online classes and a focus on preparing students to find jobs quickly after completing their studies. Classes are offered in the fields of business skills, project management, computer applications and technical training.

Business Skills Training

Business skills training courses cover business writing, communication strategies, project management techniques and many other aspects of successful business leadership. These training courses may be utilized by employers or employees to gain the tools to succeed in the world of business.

Project Management Training

Project Management training courses are offered in the form of Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certifications and Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications. CAPM students are required to have a high school diploma or the equivalent in order to qualify, as well as at least 1500 hours hours of experience or 23 hours of project management training. The PMP certification courses require students to have either a 4-year degree or a high school diploma, depending on the number of relevant experience hours an applicant has, in order to apply.

Cyber Security Certification

New Horizons offers a number of cyber security classes intended for students who are looking to expand their knowledge and gain relevant certification, as well as working professionals who want to advance their careers. The courses and certification are mostly provided by third parties such as CompTIA.
