Commonwealth Technical Institute at the Hiram G. Andrews Center is a 2-year, private post-secondary trade and technical school. This school has a total enrollment of about 200 undergraduate students and primarily serves students with disabilities in a barrier-free environment. In addition to rehabilitation services, it provides interactive job-skills training, vocational evaluation, career exploration services, independent living skills training and educational programs. The institute offers six degree and ten diploma programs in fields such as architectural drafting, business retail management and computer service technology.
The Diploma in Business Retail Sales program provides students with a fundamental knowledge of retail and wholesale operations, as well as entry-level skills for positions in customer service, retail sales and telemarketing. Students learn to make correct change, follow instructions and operate calculators, cash registers and computers. The curriculum consists of 16 courses, which are offered over a span of three academic terms. Students must complete courses in keyboarding, cash register basics, material handling, customer relations, retail operations, record keeping, e-commerce, merchandising and record keeping.
