The bachelor's and master's programs in communication studies offered by SF State are part of the Communication Studies Department.
The bachelor's degree curriculum is arranged into eight 'breadth' areas - specific areas of focus, such as research methods, organizational communication, public speaking and interpersonal communication. A diverse array of classes covers subjects ranging from gender and communication studies to conflict resolution, family communication and performance study. In the master's program, students participate in graduate seminars, and they're also required to complete either a creative work project, a master's thesis or a comprehensive exam.
