Marketing Graduate Programs Overview

Marketing master's programs can be a great way for aspiring marketing professionals to further their education, enhance their skills, and improve job prospects. With so many options to choose from, searching for a reputable program can be overwhelming. Below is information about a few of the top marketing master's programs. Depending on the school, there may be part-time or accelerated master's programs, but in general, a master's degree usually takes two years to complete. Additionally, this is a list of general marketing programs, so industry-specific degrees such as fashion marketing are not included.

1. Northwestern University

Northwestern University offers a Master of Business Administration in Marketing and has an acceptance rate of 8%. They give students the option to study full time or part-time on evenings and weekends. The university also has an option for marketing professionals who wish to go back to school; it is known as their Executive MBA. The marketing department features faculty members who have been editors for academic journals, have served as presidents of the Association of Consumer Research, and have been named Marketing Educator of the Year by the American Marketing Association.

2. University of Pennsylvania

One of the first schools to ever teach marketing, The University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business has an 8% acceptance rate. This school's MBA program has two marketing options; a Marketing Management major and a joint major in Marketing and Operations Management. According to the university, the marketing program is flexible enough to be part of a double major and works well with Finance, Entrepreneurial Management, Operations Management, or Strategic Management majors. A student organization known as the Wharton Marketing Club is an available extracurricular.

3. Duke University

Duke University has a 9% acceptance rate. Their MBA program boasts a marketing concentration with an additional option of choosing courses within a certain area of marketing. The three pathways for the marketing concentration are Product Management, Market Analysis and Strategy, and a Dual Marketing Concentration. During the program, students can participate in case presentations, simulations, and discussions, as well as interact with visiting business leaders.

4. University of Michigan (Ann Arbor)

University of Michigan's Ross School of Business in Ann Arbor has a 23% acceptance rate. Students in the MBA marketing program can enhance their learning experience by joining marketing-focused extracurriculars. The option to travel to New York City and Chicago to meet marketing professionals is also available. Companies such as P&G, Google, and Amazon are among the top employers of this program's graduates.

5. Columbia University

With an acceptance rate of 6% and a highly regarded faculty, Columbia Business School is one of the most prestigious schools in the world of business education. Students can pursue a Master of Science in Marketing Science, which emphasizes consumer insights, mathematical methods and digital marketing. The program even offers students a chance to take doctoral-level marketing courses as electives.
