Technical Project Management Degree Program in Georgia

Essential Information

Georgia has close to 50 different colleges and universities offering technical project management programs. Such programs are available in a wide array of college degree programs. Some can be found in information technology programs, fusing business and computer interests together; others are found in bachelor's or master's business programs, training students for management positions in the public or private sector. Specializations are available in some cases and all undergraduate degree programs include general education classes.

Brenau University

Although traditionally a woman's college, Brenau University, located in Gainesville, offers programs online and on-campus to both men and women. The school's Master of Business Administration in Project Management, offered by the Department of Business Administration, prepares students for management positions in a variety of fields, including technology. Students who complete the program are eligible for PMI Certification through the Project Management Institute. The degree requires 15 credit hours of project management courses, including project teams, planning and control techniques and strategic issues.

Central Georgia Technical College

Central Georgia Technical College currently offers close to 200 different certificate and associate's programs, including an associate's program in business management, at its Macon headquarters. Students are required to specialize in one of five different concentrations of the degree: general management, small business management, service sector management, operations management or human resource management. No matter which specialization the student chooses, the program takes 63 credit hours in full and includes required coursework in principles of management, leadership and business ethics.

Columbus State University

Established in 1958, Columbus State University offers a bachelor's degree in management information systems from its Columbus campus. The 123 credit hour program includes coursework in quantitative analysis for business, principles of macroeconomics and database design. 45 credit hours must also be completed from general education areas such as English, math and communications.

Darton State College

Darton State College is a 2-year college offering certificate and associate's programs to students at its Albany campus; its computer information systems degree program prepares students for 4-year degree programs in management information systems and computer information systems at larger schools. The 65-to-71 credit hour program requires students to mainly take general education courses such as English composition, U.S. history and college algebra. Students must also take between 12 and 16 credits in computer science courses, however, and are required to take basic courses in accounting and statistics as well.

Georgia College

A 4-year, public liberal arts school in Milledgeville, Georgia College is currently attended by over 6,600 students. Its management information systems program is tailored specifically towards students who enjoy problem-solving computer and other electronic system issues. The 120 credit hour program also features extensive coursework in business, with classes such as strategic management, applied business statistics and international trade.

Georgia Southern University

Located near the South Carolina border in Statesboro, Georgia Southern University is a 4-year, public university that offers bachelor's, master's and doctoral programs to a little over 20,200 students. The school's information systems program is designed for students with both business and computer interests. The 4-year bachelor's program consists of coursework in data communications, electronic business and computer applications. Students must also complete an internship for college credit during the course of their studies.

Georgia State University

Georgia State University (GSU), located in downtown Atlanta, offers more than 250 fields of study to its student population of over 32,000. The Computer Information Systems Department at GSU's College of Business offers a Master of Science in Information Systems with a concentration in information systems development and project management. The program prepares students for careers managing information systems projects. Courses cover software quality management, systems development, enterprise architecture, development of information systems, Web application development and security and privacy issues.

Gwinnett Technical College

Gwinnett Technical College offers certificate and associate's programs to students via its suburban Atlanta location in Lawrenceville. The school offers an Associate of Applied Science in Business Management with three different concentrations: general management, human resource management and operations management. Both the human resource and operations tracks feature a course in project management. Regardless of which track the student picks, the program consists of 64 credit hours, 55 of which are the same no matter the specific concentration. Students take varied classes in general education courses in addition to their business management core before taking a total of 9 credit hours in their chosen specialization.

University of Georgia

The state's largest institution of higher learning (nearly 35,000 students are currently taking bachelor's, master's or other graduate programs at the Athens campus) offers a bachelor's program in management information systems which is ranked as one of the ten best such programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report. Training students for such careers as business analysis or database management, the MIS program includes courses in energy informatics, information systems leadership and systems analysis and design. Students looking to continue their education can also enroll in UGA's master's program in internet technology, which is a two-year program offered at the Gwinnett University Center in Atlanta.

University of West Georgia

The University of West Georgia offers a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management Information Systems from its Carrollton campus about 45 minutes west of Atlanta. The major trains students in web design and network administration while also providing a liberal arts-based education. Students are also encouraged to seek out an internship through the school's Richards College of Business.
