Where to Find a Sewing Class in Columbus
There is only one school in the Columbus area that offers sewing classes to college students: the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD). This 4-year school is located within a mile of downtown Columbus and offers both program-based and continuing education classes in fashion design and sewing.

CCAD's bachelor's degree program and minor in fashion design both include a number of courses with sewing instruction.
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Fashion Design program at CCAD offers courses in pattern drafting, fashion construction and tailoring, all of which include instruction in sewing. The program also requires coursework in areas ranging from draping and fashion design illustration to retail and surface design techniques. As seniors, students must design and create four final pieces to display in the annual fashion show at the end of the year.
Minor in Fashion Design
The minor in fashion design at CCAD requires 15 credits in fashion design, including many of the sewing-related courses found in BFA program. Students may also take courses in specialty fashion construction, through which they can learn how to sew swimwear and handbags, among other items.
